Brother of former Senegalese president and his wife under criminal investigation

Senegal’s judicial police have questioned Aliou Sall, former mayor of Guédiawaye and brother of former President Macky Sall, along with his wife, as part of a financial investigation opened by the prosecutor’s office specializing in economic crimes.

According to informed sources, Sall and his wife appeared at the headquarters of the Criminal Investigations Division in response to an official summons, where they were questioned in the presence of their lawyers.

The sources confirmed that reports circulating on social media about his arrest were false — Sall was not detained but appeared voluntarily to provide clarifications regarding the issues under scrutiny.

This development follows the submission of a report by the Financial Intelligence Processing Unit to the financial prosecutor, containing information on financial transactions linked to the former mayor.

Preliminary findings indicate that the case is unrelated to the PetroTim or Amadou Sall affairs, but rather concerns a real estate transaction currently under review.

No restrictive measures have been taken against Aliou Sall, while hearings continue to determine the judicial course the case will take.

The Senegalese public is closely watching the outcome of this case, given its connection to one of the most prominent figures in the country’s political scene in recent years.
